A society of wandering space nomads and traders descended from Solomani/Maori stock. The centuries-old ships of the Starfarers are easily identifiable by their ramshackle, cobbled-together appearance, while the Starfarer's themselves can be distinguished by their facial tattoos. These markings appear to be simple geometric decoration, but actually denote social status, function aboard the ship, marital status, and other personal information.

Relations between the Starfarers and the polities of the Quadrant are highly complex.  Some worlds treat them as pirates (which they sometimes are) while others consider them important trading partners.  These relationships can be more or less discrete, some polities treating all Starfarers the same, some making formal trade pacts with specific fleets, others treating each ship as an individual entity.

Certain schools of economics consider the Maorin Starfarers taken as a whole to be equivalent to an interstellar corporation for purposes of analysis.
