Lightning Class Cruisers

Imperium naval vessels displacing an impressive 60,000 tons. The meson gun of a Lightning class is bigger than most whole starships. This main weapon is supplemented by two dozen 50-ton missile bays, forty dual fusion gun turrets and almost 200 triple laser turrets. Defenses include over 100 sandcaster arrays, nuclear dampers, meson screens, and thick hull armor. Although capable of only 2 gees of acceleration in normal space, their 5 parsec hyperjump range outclasses almost every other vessel in the Quadrant.  Additionally, Lightning class cruisers typically carry several dozen light fighters deployable via two high-speed launch tubes and a complement of 150 Imperial marines equipped with full Battle Dress armor.

Lightning class cruisers are a mainstay of Imperial military presence in the Gateway Quadrant.  Larger vessels tend to be too expensive to flex as muscle in peacetime and often remain in port. The four Lightning Class Cruisers assigned to the Quadrant are the Regal Carnation, the Valiant Senior, the Annulling Tapestry, and the Bard Endeavour Echo.
